I'm home schooled in the UK and having trouble making friends who go to State School

I'm home schooled in the UK and having trouble making friends who go to State School?
I have lots of friends but all of them go to Private Schools.

If it helps, I'm home-educated too and all my friends are either fellow home-ed'ers or they go to private schools. Even the friends I have online, from overseas, are, without exception, at private schools. I have never even met anyone who goes to a state school. That's not deliberate; sometimes it's 6 months or more before the question of school arises between us. It just seems to be...I don't know...maybe home-ed'ers and private school kids attract each other, share a common "world view", come from a similar place educationally or hold a similar philosophy in life. Anyway there's no actual law that says you have to source x% of your friends from the state education system (or any other artificially contrived system). Concentrate on the individual and not concern myself with how, why, where or when they are schooled; that's my only friend-finding strategy. (Mind you the closest state school to us is...I don't know where. There are certainly no state schools within a 500 km radius of our house; the only one there ever was up here was closed down nearly 30 years ago.) If, for some reason, you feel the need for state educated friends, as opposed to just friends, why not join a local sports team or drama group or Scouts or Venturers or Young Farmers or one of your local Combined Cadet Force groups; and see who else turns up? Or find out where state school kids in your area hang out and go join them there? Or go and watch the weekend footie games at your local school and make the effort to get talking to any other kids who turn up? Or call the school and ask if you can use any of their sports facilities etc out-of-hours? Or ask if you can join in with the school's co-curricular clubs and activities? (Don't know about where you live but here homeschooled kids are entitled to call their local state school and ask the principal if they can join the school's out-of-school clubs and activities.) Or go to the local library etc after school and see who's there. You need to find out where the local state school kids go and what they do when they're not stuck in school...and then make the effort to put yourself in their way.
2 :
As a parent I'd actually rather my daughter didn't spend any more time than necessary with state school kids because their social skills are so poor. I see a tendency to nasty, bullying behaviour and oneupmanship that I really don't want her picking up.

Get into a UK medical school without top GCSE results

Get into a UK medical school without top GCSE results?
If you've achived excellent A Level results (AAA/AAB), but did poorly in your A Levels for whatever reason and only managed C grades, how will this effect ones application to a medical school. Are they that bothered about GCSE grades or do you have to have a perfect academic record straight through to be deemed a serious candidate? poorly in your GCSE* not A levels, typo sorry.
Higher Education (University +) - 1 Answers

They may use it as a filter - just to wash people out who didn't get good grades. However, medical schools are massively oversubscribed, and what they're more likely to look at is your other experience - what extracurricular activities have you done? Have you done work experience in a hospital? All this is required if you want your application to be considered. You need to be top calibre in every way and prove your motivation before you ever apply. If you only get AAB at A-level you can probably kiss goodbye to getting into medical school, unless your application is truly exceptional in other ways. Resits are always an option though, so don't lose heart.

Right now in the UK, especially where I live (in london) living costs are very high, but some of the best uni's in the country are located here, UCL, London school of economics, Brunel, Imperial College, Kings, and so on. How ever going to university is actually cheaper than some counties, courses cost £3145 a year and run for 3 or 4 years, and for the first year you should be able to live a bit more cheaply by living on campus. Student life isn't cheap and its hard to fund yourself. I should no, I've still got student debts from studying at UCL and Brunel, I'm 32, though I did get my Ph.D only 4 years ago. I'm not sure about how you would go about getting finical aid, how ever you may qualify for some grants from the government, most student do, in some form or other, also student loans do have a very low rate of interest. Because of my parents income at the time, I was eligible for a grant of £4.50 whoppie.

Ever since I took the, I haven't heard from them for years now and they are reported to never be brought back to you. Is there any way to obtain those results and what was the point in even taking them if they're never going to be given back to you? Also why aren't they given back to you?

Preferably one that has LLB law degree and is in England. Also if possible, state the cost for international students. Thanks in advance!

The cheapest are the ones that are less popular. For example, the University of Bolton is one of the cheapest: tuition is 7800 pounds for international students. Queen Mary, a school that is reputable, is relatively cheap compared to other universities located in central London: 9000 pounds. More popular schools, like Bristol and LSE cost about 11,000 pounds--if you can afford it, it is definitely worth the extra cost! **Note that the figures I gave were this year's tuition. For entry in 2010, the tuition will be slightly higher (maybe by a few hundred pounds?!?)

Yeah, and Cambridge is a great school. You may have to pass the US/State boards though, but I'm pretty sure UK certification is accepted at the US. Certification of shit countries doesn't mean anything in the US. But even mexico doctors could get jobs in the US, so a Cambridge doctor wouldn't have a problem.

Is it possible to become just a Media Studies teacher at secondary school in the UK

Is it possible to become just a Media Studies teacher at secondary school in the UK?
I would like to become a media studies teacher since it is my favourite subject and im doing very well in it, so is it possible? at my school all of the media teachers are english teachers too but i would love to be able to teach just media studies after being inspired by my own media studies teacher.

I would assume, but don't limit yourself to JUST media studies or you'll be limiting your job options. I don't know how it is in the UK, but English teaching jobs are hard to come by in my part of the States. It's truly a waiting game. Even rarer are the media studies jobs, which would most likely be classified under "Librarian/Media Specialist" here. So, my advice is to major in English education, minor in Media Studies, and have the ability to teach both.

Are the school cafeteria in UK and USA really tasteless

Are the school cafeteria in UK and USA really tasteless?
I have heard that the school canteen in UK and USA are not delicious before. Is it true? And what kind of foods are there in the school canteen? Please tell me :)

1 :
Yes, except pizza, which still doesn't taste like normal pizza. You have to remember that schools have to spend the least and cater to the tastes of the most people. That usually translates as bland food made with inferior ingredients.
2 :
I thought they were very good when I went to school but over time things change. When my children went to school they found that in the elementary grades they were given outdated food. When my son tried to bring home a bag of chips to show us the date they took it away from him. Since this was food we paid for they had no right to take it from him either, but they did. I no longer have faith in our public schools lunch programs and question much about our public school system in general. There is not just a problem with the quality of the food but I feel serving food on styrofoam plates and trays is hazardous to our children's health. The ingredients used to make styrofoam are toxic. Why are U.S. schools serving food on it?
3 :
I am in the states. Our food was pretty decent. The one thing we all tried to avoid was the macaroni. It was a globby pile of glue. Other than that we had regular meals and a small salad bar, as well as an ala cart options with chefs salads, and so on...
4 :
I usually play it safe and get the salad, unless I've seen what the food looks like.
5 :
YES! Everything is really bad. We had bouncy chicken nuggets and hot dogs that were green on the bottom. Pizza is usually okay. There is just basic food: mashed potatoes, fruit cups, veggies, chilli, pizza, hamburgers, hotdogs, corndogs, bread rolls, sandwiches, things like that. I don't remember much because I stopped eating a long time ago. I remember in elementary school, the only thing I liked was their hot pockets. they were actually pretty good. HOPE THIS HELPS!
6 :
Yes and no. At our school there are days where the food is just horrible and some days where you can actually get a decent lunch. But people dont want to risk it and find it easier to buy a poptart or cookie with a slushie. Very unhealthy. ANd the only way to get a salad is if you get to the front of the line first, and when you do get one they can be very disgusting. I remember at my elementary school they actually fed us really good. They types of food availible are: Fries(with cheese if you want), Chili cheese fries, Burger, Cheese burger, Spicy Chicken sand winch, pizza, salad, Maxx sticks, chicken nuggets, Deli sandwinch, slushies, apple juice, water, pineapple juice. They dont sell sodas to us anymore. You can also probably get poptarts and cookies. and there is usually a teacher who sells candy and sometimes pizza but usually after school. The food is probably not as delicious as before, but at least they feed us :) kinda...lol
7 :
yes.

How do I pay for grad school in the UK as an American citizen

How do I pay for grad school in the UK as an American citizen?
Going to LSE, my gpa is about 3.52 cum. Any idea of how I can pay for a $40 grad degree without doing it all via loans? Scholarship, fellowship, grant ideas?
Studying Abroad - 2 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
For a masters degree: LSE does offer some funding to foreign students. You need to ask them about that. Otherwise, you'll be paying for it in loans. For a PhD, LSE should fully fund you, plus give you a small stipend.
2 :
There is the Fulbright scholarship program which the US dept of state provides to allow the best students to get their masters in the UK for Free. It is very competitive and you need to work w the program adviser assigned to your undergrad university. http://www.cies.org/ There is also the Marshall Scholarship program which the British Government provides to help the best US students come to the UK to study their masters for free. This program is also very competitive. http://www.marshallscholarship.org/ Also check w your local Rotary club as they many times provide scholarships for students looking to study abroad or do their masters abroad. Note that all of these programs involve a very long planning process (and understandably, considering the amount of money they pay out) so if you want to receive any of them you are not looking at attending until the 2011-2012 school year.

You mean basic linear equations, y = mx + c? My daughter learnt about them last year, at age eleven, This year she's doing quadratics.

It seems to be key stage 4 which is between 14 and 16 leading up to GCSE exams. This might be useful http://curriculum.qca.org.uk:80/key-stages-3-and-4/subjects/mathematics/keystage4/index.aspx?return=/key-stages-3-and-4/subjects/index.aspx Click on 3 (range and content) and I think the thing you mention is at 3.1e. You need to bear in mind though that different pupils of different abilities will not necessarily study the same things. I do not know if pupils are still put into different classes accoridng to ability, but they were when I was at school, and so different ability groups actually sat different exam papers. This means that the teachers would teach a class only the things that their ability group would encounter in an exam. At my school you could only get a grade A in the GCSE maths exam if you were in set 1 for maths (the top ability group) so those kids were taught a lot more things. If you were in set 2, the highest grade you could possibly get (even if you got 100% on your exams and coursework) was a grade C, because they didn't try to teach the lower ability kids the maths they needed to get a grade higher than that. The exam that the top set took would cover everything that the lower set covered, plus additional stuff too. I don't know if things are still like this, I am talking about the late 80's early 90's, and I think a lot of changes were probably made to the national curriculum after the Labour government came in in 1997. Going back to your question my point really is that it is quite likely that not every child in the UK will be taught analytical geometry. I don't remember doing any of this and I was in a lower set. But if the child is in the appropriate achievement group they would be looking it this sometime between 14 and 16. Obviously many kids don't get past basic addition, subtraction, multiplication etc so would never be presented with an area of maths like this. In terms of grades here,Grade C in the UK is considered "adequate", showing a good basic grasp of maths. Many employers will say that job applicants must have grade C or above in Maths and English.

Do i need permission to take my 4 year old out of school nursery (uk only)

Do i need permission to take my 4 year old out of school nursery (uk only)?
Im taking my son on holiday next week but his nursery teacher said i needed to fill in a holiday request form from the school office and i did that and they said they would let me know if had permission or not. Can they do this? My son is only 4 and i thought his nursery education is optional
Toddler & Preschooler - 5 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
It seems they can because you registered you child at that school. A child becomes of compulsory school age when they reach the age of five and, where a parent has elected to register their child at school, they must start school in the term following their fifth birthday. A child continues to be of compulsory school age until the last Friday in June in the school year that they reach the age of 16. http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Parents/Schoolslearninganddevelopment/YourChildsWelfareAtSchool/DG_066966
2 :
His nursery education is indeed optional...in both directions. If you don't want the place, or don't use it, they'll simply give it to someone else. If you took him on holiday 9 weeks out of every 10, I guarantee that will happen. The forms are to keep a paper trail of whether you are doing that or not.
3 :
yea dey always tell you to fill in forms but they shud let u
4 :
You are correct, Until a child is 5 years old, education of any kind is optional. However, since you registered your child at that Nursery, you are now taking a place someone else could potentially have used, and therefore Yes they can ask you to complete holiday forms, etc. If you take your child out of the group without their permission, you could effectively lose the child's place, since if you aren't going to abide by their rules, they'll reopen the place for another child.
5 :
Well nursery school is optional. The reason they may do this could be related to if they are making you pay or not. I know my daughters school offers a week that is considered a holiday week and they dont charge you. So maybe it comes down to pay or not pay...

The best way to get seriously into drama is to go to a normal secondary school and take Drama to GCSE. If you do well in your other subjects, once you have done your A-Levels you can apply to specialist drama academies or a drama course at university. The one at Bristol is particularly good.

5 :
im sure you will need a student visa.
6 :
mustly i would ask that on google and look up your school that you would whant to do to !
7 :
I went to college in the UK... I flew there and they stamped my passport, they didnt care that I was a student. They only wanted me to tell them that I wasn't going to work while there. There were no Visa's involved, I became a resident alien and had to register with the Council and maintain up to date info with them. I also had to carry my greencard with me everywhere. This was in... 1995 - 1996 My advice - call the British embassy in Manhattan and ask, they're lovely people and will be more than happy to provide you with all the info you want. Be safe while there, the UK is a lot of fun.

I'm pretty sure there is a dual Visa but it might involve more paperwork. My aunt is a professor and when she went to study abroad with her students, some of them unknowingly got jobs without getting a working Visa and a student Visa. My aunt did some research and got some of them dual Visa's but that was in France. If there is a help section on their website you should try to check that out.

OF COURSE YOU WILL NEED A VISA..IN FACT WHEN YOU ARRIVED AT THE AIRPORT THERE THEY ARE GOING TO TAKE ALL OF YOUR CLOTHES AND MAKE A FULL REVISION OF YOUR BODY...THEY HAVE BIG RULES THERE AND MAYBE YOU WONT THINK ANYMORE THAT JAMES BOND IS SOMETHING FUNNY..THEY SPY OVER ALL IN UK..THEY HAVE LIKE 4 MILLION CAMERAS IN ALL COUNTRY...SO THINK TWICE WHEN YOU GO TO THE TOILET THERE....
10 :
You need a student visa. But I have to tell you to plan yourself very carefully! International students don't get half the opportunities UK citizens get! I know people stressing with student visas, as some universities charges three times the normal amount for tuition fees, and sometimes bursaries are not given to international students! You also need to research what subjects you are doing and what univeristy you plan to settle in! London is way more expensive. But something around the border, like the university of Hertfordshire is completely affordable! But I'm sure that getting job in the UK is not a hard job. When they mean that you can't work, what they mean is that you cant work and not study, but you can work and study at the same time!! Trust me I know loads of people with student visas who are studying and working at the same time! You should also contact some universities and see if they already have students who are working near universities, some universities give you an opportunity to teach younger students for money!! Check it out!! And good luck!!

Go on the University of Miami web site and go to admissions/international student to see requirements. You can email the admissions office with any questions
2 :
You will need a student Visa. When you are accepted to the University (you should always apply to more than one in case you do not get accepted), they will send you an admissions letter (which you will need to apply for the visa) and steps to actually get one, along with all of the information that will be required of you. Right now you just do really well on your A-levels, and make sure that you meet the other admissions requirements to the school. They will take care of you when it comes to the technical stuff about coming to America. But just to state this now, you will need your passport before you apply (they need that number), and they will usually want you to prove that you have at least funding for the first year upfront.

the last time i went out to buy a full new school uniform - 1 of everything- it cost £300. i think that's ridiculous. all the different schools in my area have really different uniforms and i think it would be good if every school had the same black trousers/skirt, fitted white shirt, black jumper and blazer, and then different ties and sew-on crests. it would be so much easier and all the shops could get into a little price battle.

well we dont have middle school and high school its all one thing called Secondary school we start there at 11 and finish at 16. We're at school from September to July, we graduate when we're in year 11 in my school its about June when you graduate so its the end of the year after all your exams. We don't really have any requirements... and its free unless you go to a private school which is normally expensive. We also have to wear uniforms too. And when we finish secondary school we go to either College or "Sixth form" until we're 18 when we go to University. Before Secondary school we go to Primary school which is from when you're 4-11. Before that we have Nursery which is for 3-4 year olds. Also we have year groups it goes Nursery Reception Year 1 Year 2 Year 3 Year 4 Year 5 Year 6 Secondary School: Year 7 Year 8 Year 9 Year 10 Year 11 (In year 10 & 11 we have major exams called GCSEs) College or Sixth form the first year we do AS levels then the second year we do A-levels University: Where we study for a degree. You can go back to university though to do Masters e.t.c Hope this has helped :)

your grammar is a bit off. i don't understand what the heck you're talking about.
2 :
If you live there, you can either walk, bike, or take a car. If you don't, you can take a boat or a plane.
3 :
If your talking about physically getting there I would suggest a plane, car, bike, train etc. If you mean how do I get into a ballet school in the UK, then hard work, especially if you want a scholarship. You have to be extremely good to be accepted anywhere in Europe, their ballet training is generally much more serious then it is in the U.S. If you've got money then just pay your way in, but you still may not be accepted, most schools are by audition only.

Are these A Level choices good enough for medical school in the UK

Are these A Level choices good enough for medical school in the UK?
Chemistry. Biology. English Language. Physcology. I know medical schools are extremley competitive. Even though some they say maths is not required should I take maths instead of physcology to improve my chances? My only worry is that I'm not good enough and I don't enjoy the subject but if it would greatly improve my chances getting into med school then I will endure it. Also I'm at a grammar school so would that mean there's an advantage?

Heyy yeahh i'm trying for medicine. I'm doing chemistry, maths, geography and biology. The best place to look for what universities want is on the ucas website, and you can look up specific courses and what they want. Your combination sounds fine, there are a couple of girls applying for medicine without maths, and i don't think its affecting their application. Oh and yeahh i think being at a grammar school will help you, some unis are slightly biased against private schools because they have "better teaching so its easier to get the grades" which quite frankly isnt always the case! Anyway good luck! ps If you can, i'd go on a thing called Medlink, its a 4 day medicine course in lower 6th which gives you a real taster of what med school will be like :) www.ucas.ac.uk = ucas website www.medlink-uk.com = medlink

same as the previous answerer said, but you should also include pages for people to sign, like in regular yearbooks. Try to include pictures of more than just your good friends, like sports teams and games, places you like to go outside of school, etc. Generally anything you think you might want to remember, include.

Can anyone tell me if the primary school teacher in uk should teach all subjects

Can anyone tell me if the primary school teacher in uk should teach all subjects?
Hi, Iam a third year student doing a degree in ICT (Information and Communication Technology), Im thinking of teaching at primary school but Im not quite good at all subjects because it was a long time since i had science, math becuz im 31 years old now. So does any one know if primary teachers should teach all subjects or they have an option of teaching only one? for example only computing which im keen at. Thanks

Primary teachers will teach all subjects in the curriculum, you may be lucky and avoid music and PE, but from my experience, you will teach literacy, numeracy (thee big 2), geography, RE, history, ICT, science, Art etc. What really kicks is that you may be asked to teach two different year groups in one classroom of 50 kids and differentiate a gazillion times a day (and have it all on record for Ofsted scum) DO NOT DO IT! It is hell. All teaching now is hell.

Probably the best thing for you to do is to look at The Times rankings as they're one of the most respected ranking systems. The results for universities that offer LLBs can be found here: http://extras.timesonline.co.uk/tol_gug/gooduniversityguide.php?AC_sub=Law&x=8&y=15&sub=38 Some of the universities featured are in other parts of the country but it sounds like you've done a bit of research so you should be able to distinguish which ones are in London. Other than that, I would recommend that you look at the course and the tutors at each college and see if they have the sort of specialisms that suit your interests.

i believe it varies, but all you really need is to pass an equivalency exam. they give you an exam on pharmacy practice in the place you are going- pharmacy law etc. and you also need to pass exams that demonstrate that your education is equivelant to where you are going. for example i know many pharmacists from india try to come to the USA to practice, but many do not pass these exams. im having difficulty getting specific, but i hope you get the idea. any further questions email me at dasilver@eden.rutgers.edu

I want to be a primary school teacher (UK), but

I want to be a primary school teacher (UK), but...?
I'm studying for a Law degree at University. I want to be a Primary School teacher and have very good GCSE and A-Level results, but I was wondering whether I'll be accepted to train despite doing a Law degree? I chose Law because I'm interested in the subject, and now I am hoping it won't quash my chances of becoming a Primary School teacher. I've read it doesn't particularly matter what degree you have taken, as long as it is academically-orientated. Is this true? I'm also from the UK. Thank you.

You can do a post grad qualification. You need to ask the local colleges what their entrance criteria are but you should be OK. If you can get some practical experience of working in a school it would help to show you're serious.
2 :
Yep, once you've done the law degree you can do a primary PGCE.
3 :
you should of done childcare and education really but i don't no sorry
4 :
There is no requirement or need whatsoever to have done child care/education etc in the UK. It is entirely possible to take a primary PGCE with a law degree, but you must understand that you will be in competition for places (and, later, jobs) with those who have more relevant degree subjects. All other things being equal, your 'irrelevant' degree may count against you. Take your degree, get at least a 2:1 and then apply for your PGCE. No-one can tell you exactly what the recruiting circumstances will be by that time, but teaching is an ageing profession (and many new teachers leave it within a few years of qualifying).

I need to find an affordable, stylish tote bag for school, UK only, help.?
I'm going into year 9, and I need a new bag to carry all of my books in it. It has to be affordable, and colourful, not something from Next or Topshop or anything like that, which is just black and brown with gold studs, I really want a colourful tote bag, not a backpack or anything. I have found a really nice canvas messenger bag from a Coca Cola store, here's the link: http://ep.yimg.com/ca/I/colacorner_2119_6662990 but I'm not sure if it's big enough for my books, I need this bag for the rest of the year :/ Thank you :) I have found this bag so far, do you think I could use it for school? http://www.monsoon.co.uk/All-Day-Bags/Union-Jack-Weekend-Bag/invt/78958799 I need online websites, thanks.

You could try Accessorize. I've seen some cute and colourful tote bags of a good size in there that I'd like to buy for myself! They don't have any weird studding or anything, and look really feminine but practical as well. Some of them even look a bit shiny, like they might be harder wearing and easier to clean. Have a look and see what you think. Hope this helps!
2 :
It's okay, cute too, but remember in high school they will make you have a journal in practically every subject(class) except P.E. And binders, and books. It will suck if your school doesn't have lockers. So good luck☺

I want to become a doctor,How do they do pre-med and medical school in England/UK

I want to become a doctor,How do they do pre-med and medical school in England/UK?
I understand how in america you go to college for 4 years, and the med school for 4 years. How is it different in England>

Medicine in this country isn't split into pre-med and medical school. In this country, when you apply to university you do so to study one subject and when you get there that is all you study, whether it be, for example, maths, history or medicine. Therefore, when our medical students turn 18 they go to university and study medicine from the get go and nothing else. As a result they spend 5 or 6 years (the length of the course differs according to the university) studying medicine as part of one continuous course before qualifying as a doctor.
2 :
I'm currently in the business of applying for this at the minute. So in the UK you finish compulsory education at 16, you can now legally go and get a job but most people carry on to take their A levels at a 6th form, college or academy. This takes two years. You then apply (well, you actually start applying during the second year of A levels) for university. You can apply to four medical schools, and the process is pretty similar to applying for any other degree (except there are a few more hoops to jump through, for example, extra tests like the UKCAT or BMAT). If you want you can also apply for one other subject which many people do so they have a back up as getting into medical school is very competitive. If the schools like your application they may invite you for interview, they may then make you an offer of a place (which is usually conditional, eg. if you get AAB in your A levels you can have a place). If you get the grades, no problem, you're in - if not, they may still take you or you resit and try again next year. I'm sure like in the US grades are not the only requirement, they also look at your conduct, hobbies, volunteer work, character etc. etc. before making their desicion. Overall the degree is 5-6 years, depending on if you intercalate (take another degree in the middle, for example, have a year of for medicine and get a BSc in neurology or something) or if you do a foundation course (for students who didnt have the oppurtunity to take the right sciences at GCSE or AS/A level). Pretty much everyone then does the first two years of clinical practice near where they qualified so you can be looking at staying in the same place for up to eight years.

American high school to medical school in the UK

American high school to medical school in the UK?
I hear that in the UK you can go into medical school as soon as you get out of high school. SO i was wondering if this was true and also how much would it cost to do this?? And also if you become a doctor in the UK would it be possible to come back to America and use your degree here?
Higher Education (University +) - 2 Answers

You can go straight to Med school in the UK, but you would need about six incredible A-levels as a British student. These are intensive and very challenging exams top students take at the end of high school. Or, you could take the American equivalent, about 10 - 12 APs with grades of 5 on all of them, usually in: - Physics B - Physics C - BC Calc - Stat - Chemistry - Biology - Foreign Language - EnvSci - English - Psych - Latin All these along with nearly perfect SAT II scores in these same subjects. A regular American high school education will NOT by any means cut it. Tuition is similar to American med schools - about 45,000 dollars a year. You can certainly use a British medical degree in the States. Best of luck =]
2 :
The first response is mostly correct, but to clarify, A Levels are courses, not just exams. And it is accurate to state that a US high school diploma is not going to meet the admission requirements to a UK medical school. Equally important, UK medical schools rarely accept US students for the simple fact that US students leave the UK to go back to the US. Nobody can practice medicine in the US until they have successfully passed the US Medical Licensing Exam. The USMLE Step 1 exam is entirely focused on the Basic Sciences, which are emphasized in US medical schools far more than anywhere else, so anybody not educated in a US medical school is at a disadvantage. For this reason, many foreign trained physicians cannot practice in the US or they must take additional classes in the Basic Sciences. If you think students in the UK get to practice medicine sooner than their US counterparts, you are mistaken. Although most of the world enrolls students into medical schools straight out of high school, the medical schools and residency training are longer. In other words, it still about 11 years to become an independent practitioner. There aren't any short cuts to becoming a physician.

If you're a US citizen wanting to go to the UK for medical school you are wasting your time. It's not impossible to get accepted by a UK medical school, just very unlikely. Not only do you have that issue, but then you have to figure out how you'd pay for it. No federal student loans for overseas education. The best description of medical schools in the UK is provided by Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Medical_school_%28United_Kingdom%29

Bad grades, but want to get into medical school UK

Bad grades, but want to get into medical school UK?
i have a 3rd class in BSc (Hons) Biomedical Science , bacheoler degree or first degree also because im a recovering autistic (mild learning difficulties) but didnt apply for disability help in uni hence the crap grade. i have learned from my lesson....the hard way and im now doing a part time open university MSc in science, at the moment im on the first stage which is a postgraduate certificate. As it's early days im yet to know my grades here, the second stage is either post gradute diploma the next year then complete the MSc for the 3rd year or full time, having this time next year with the complete MSc. i was wondering what grades would i need from this? would they accept PG certificate or would it have to be diploma, or have to be the full MSc? would it affect me getting in, as i now have disabilty help from the university? are they okay with open university, as a university in there own right, or penalise me because of that? and would it help that i have volunteered in my university lab assisting, promoted a bone marrow trust charity, and now helping out as a NHS volunteer aswell as doing work experience in an andrology lab at my local hospital? sorry im asking so much i just really need 2 know. Thankyou

Medical schools accept students that know: chemistry, biology and physics. Competition for placements is great. Your secondary school grades will also be a factor. Visit medical schools and discuss your desires with an admissions counselor.

UK residents pay 'council tax' . This helps to fund schools (all of them, not just secondary schools), roads, police, fire service, health services etc. Council tax is worked out on the value of the house in which you live, whether you own it or not (it is a complicated matter) and varies from area to area. If you do not pay council tax then you are committing a civil offence and can, eventually, be taken to court. Government funding for schools comes through the local education authority (usually part of the Counry Council) and is 'topped-up' by contributions from local council tax, worked out by a formula. This means that school funding varies across the country. http://www.teachernet.gov.uk/management/schoolfunding/ Additional fund-raising is also carried out for individual schools by parent associations and so on.

...if parents marry later in life, more educational opportunites given, and greater attention and support given by parents? Was surprised when i recently read an article/survey in The Times about girls given to violence, more open and daring to flaunt their sexuality, wanting to look good, not knowing what to do after school, etc. Are there other countries having such acute problems?Like Australia, NZ, Canada and US? 2 :
No, things can only get worse, society teaches girls to be sluts, its in music and other media, they shove it down their throats everyday, they also teach loose morals through not teaching parents to discipline kids, the schools don't do it either nowadays, it used to be if you did something wrong the copper or teacher would call your dad and he would give you a smack, its illegal nowadays so kids learn they have rights and are untouchable ergo learn they can do what they want without recourse, that's why the crime rates are so high, the future isn't bright for my mind and the ways kids are taught is just another part of it.

Yes you can do anything you want
2 :
There are many colleges and universities in the New York City (and in New York State, but I'm assuming you mean the former). Because you are an international student (as opposed to a New York State resident), tutition will be higher for you. Whether or not you qualify for financial aid depends on the aid rules and restrictions of each specific college or university. So: Decide what you want to study; identify some colleges and universities that would provide the education you want (College Boards online will help you); look at the aid packages offered by each school; make application to those schools that would offer you the best aid packages.
3 :
Yes, it would be expensive. Very expensive. Why can't you be independent in the UK again? I'm sure there are places you can get financial aid...but you can't get it from the British government to study outside the EU.
